A look at the turmoil of my life and the experiences shared by many of this once minority! The struggle is on going, however I think tides have been turned.
Little Nancy boy playing with your dolls,
Chubby and quiet, that squeaky voice,
Tease him, ignore him, make him an it,
Little mammy's boy rolling in their Royce.
Awkward adolesent never showers with us,
Crap at all sports, dirty and weird,
Do you all hear what they say about it,
That he looks and speaks a little queered.
F*****g faggott, he sleeps with other men,
Makes us sick to our stomachs, it's wrong,
Our priest says its a mortal sin,
I hope he never looks at my dong.
To all you b******s that bullied that boy,
I forgive you whole heartedly, no tears,
I've come through it stronger and better than you,
Bravo Mr. Fitzgerald ! Your right..it did make you stronger and it shows in your writing, not just this piece.
I bet some of those people have become more opened minded as our communities continue crack their hearts to see with love..
I myself am a "breeder" ( : loving called this .. (again) Bravo !
……
I came back to add… I have listened to many stories from friends and family..them growing up gay.. how they were harassed by the law, put into places for mental health..because don't you know .. it can be corrected? (joking totally) ..it is not like that now where I live..but to think these things happened to people I love and admire..to hear how they rose above injustice.. well it makes me pretty proud to know them !

You shared a part of your life .. The honor is mine Mr. Fitzgerald ( :
If you can't celebrate your own kind, be it white, heterosexual, christian, etc, without putting down the other guys, (black, gay, atheist, etc), you're doing it wrong, is my take. One of my oldest and closest friends is gay, and I've always said, if homosexuality were really some sort of disease, I'd have caught it from him by now.
What I appreciate most about your writing, Thomas, is how you always remember that poetry is a craft. Some lesser writers might have just scribbled out a boring screed on a napkin and said "but it's the truth!" But poetry is different than the truth, it's about imagination and wordplay and fun with language, maybe with some truth in it. You have those abilities.
Bravo! I'm clapping really loud here! People can be so ignorant, so close minded. Good for you speaking out. I'm glad I found this poem - you are a wonderful poet.
I am glad that you made a success of your life. This speaks to me in many ways. One of my best friends in high school went through the taunting, and I had to stand up for him I don't even know how many times. You are a strong person, remember that!
Thomas, this is so very sad, but a defiant spark hits us in the last line. We should all be able to hold our heads high no matter what and especially after someone tries to knock them down.
