Rock to a Child.

Rock to a Child.

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A look through the eyes of an innocent.

"
Clear running water,
A mountain my home,
My life century long,
My owner a gnome.

A rock to a child,
Peaceful and blue,
Rough to a point,
A pebble to you.

I really like this, Thomas. It seems very much about perception and how it differs from childhood to being an adult. A pebble would be a pebble in an adults hand, wouldn't it? To a child, a huge and heavy rock. I very much like this analogy. Nicely written, my friend.

The reference to innocence is certainly at the center of such a perception, where the child may have created the natural expectation that the rock be turned into a pebble by a responsible adult.

this remind me of the story of a child playing in a sandbox, there's a rock that he wanted to move but he can't because it's heavy, his father watching from afar observing him came to move the pebble out from the sandbox....

a beautiful penned piece, Thomas!

A nice poem. It conjures images of nature and highlights differences in viewpoints. The simple, rhyming, lines of only three or four words are easy to read, yet gives us something to ponder. This small poem may be just a pebble in size but how big are most diamonds?

I love the natural simplicity of this. Very serene with a touch of Zen. I found a rock with a face on it once when I was a child. "Home to a goblin," I said; everyone just rolled thier eyes, but I new better. "There is conciousness in all things, rocks trees water," said old oak as he bounced me on his knee. As a child we take such things for granted. Grown ups just don't get it. I'm still a child and "grown ups" still don't get it. I found the rock last year.

I like the taste of this one...

In my opinion a child sees everything in a different light. What we adults consider boring holds a child's interest. Little things like a rock or a cloud is magical and alluring. Perhaps we can learn to be children once though keep our knowledge of the danger the world has.

All life is perception..how one views it as opposed to another. even the lines. "
A rock to a child,
Peaceful and blue,
Rough to a point,
A pebble to you." so expressive in it's imagery.....and innocence so pure in it's outlook ..great write once again
