The N****r Word.

The N****r Word.

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A challenge to those that still think it appropriate to use this foul word of hate and oppression.

"

A blast of hatred of acid tongues,

A needless phrase to scold the tall,
A forgotten hero they never mention,
Take a look at the one called Robert Smalls.

A swipe by fist of foul means,
A dangerous concoction of sparks,
A cowards language of sorts,
Take a look at the one called Rosa Parks.

A definition of weakness in ruling,
A slap in the face of the now free,
A collapsed cult now gone forever,,
Take a look at the one called Isabella Baumfree.

A word is a word to fight and hurt,
A sentence pinned together from fools,
A paragraph of silence descends upon you,
The N word no longer a relevant tool.

I agree with you completely Thomas people's minds need to be changed, they look at one thing and characterize all black people which isn't fair. Your poem was amazing, and I liked how you said "Take a look at the one called..." This is my all-time favorite poem by you. The N word is no longer a reverent tool. OUTSTANDING!!

Thank you.
How true!!!It never ceases to amaze me how people claim that we now live in a world that's accepting of the differences in people but yet promote the use of such harmful words as these?Just recently in an African state a recognized public figure who so happens to be caucasian actually came out professing her continued mistrust and dislike of black people!!Amazing right? This is the "21st century". what a mockery of the words progress and freedom

A powerful and historically infused piece. We should never tire of reminding those around us how today's relatively tolerant and progressive societies got to that point in the first place; and how if we were to forget the lessons from the past, just how fast that progress can regress. Very cool, Thomas.

Thanks x
I agree totally Thomas, there is enough hatred in this world without adding to it with others that live in our country too..I went to school in Dearborn ,Michigan with Muslims..at that time we all dressed the same, no berkas, people interdated and we got along fine..why things are like they are now is confusing to me..hatred is not something I was taught by my parents..You t4ell them..Kathie

A angsty confrontation of a poem, I like it. The topic certainly fits ur style of writing well. I have some black rapper friends who use the word, but not in a hateful way. I think in black culture nowadays and in hip hop it has become one of the those words that can be placed anywhere, in greetings etc. Some of my friends often call me it in a friendly way. Although I don't agree with it being used, I guess I've heard it so much It doesn't faze me anymore. It almost doesn't come across as a bad word unless a white guy says it tbh. But then again I'm involved in hip hop so I'm bound to come across it more. Good work

Well and good; nicely written, Thomas. Now, consider writing another piece that expands the oppression to be more inclusive; perhaps of all humanity and/or other species too. I wonder if you really meant "hatred?" Certainly you are drawing upon a strong internal force but could it be something other than hatred that compels this write? Just something to think about.

sometimes it feels like the Civil War just ended and we aren't any closer to coming together than we were back then...some just don't get it...we are all just people.

nicely expressed
