The Farm's Blessing.

The Farm's Blessing.

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A life on the land.

"
The wind falls deep,
Across Summer's grass,
Preparation for Winter,
The grass colour will pass.

The spirit now settled,
The ocean unchanged,
The rocks are receding,
From sky it has rained.

The nests now shadowed,
Animals are maturing,
Birds of no fear now,
Once scary now alluring.

Crops now are harvested,
Pales now brought in,
Food plenty for Winter,
For all of his kin.

The late summer is high-lighted beautifully here, I loved the second and last stanzas. You brought past present and future into this, besides a nice feel for the elements, wildlife and harvest. Lovely. Great Title, the idea of life on the land is heaven to me. Thanks.

Once again, I enjoyed this poem because of your rhyming and rhythm. The words are simpler and relaxing, I love the feel created, and it also creates a great imagery, which takes me to the countryside where I once lived. Winter is mostly described as frigid and lifeless by many, but this poem is uplifting and pleasant. Great job :)

It captures the end of summer beautifully. My only critique would be with the rhythm of the rhyme. The second stanza flows the best.
Of course, it could just be my American dialect. I was teaching a poetry workshop a few weeks ago and we had a lively discussion over iambic pentameter not suiting the American dialect.
I read T.S. Elliot, Ezra Pound and William Carlos Williams had discussed the same thing 80 years ago.
Overall the it is a very nice poem!

I like the "cyclical" nature of this poem; it moves as do the seasons. I would add more vivid color imagery. You do well bringing in imagery of earth, animals, weather and so on. A very natural poem. Well done!

Lovely descriptions...you painted the countryside beautifully.. :-)
Ask a farmer and he'll probably say his life is not only difficult but also mundane...and poets see so much beauty in it...just saying.. :-)

A nice journey with your words. I like the description of the farm and the good visions create by a strong statements. A country life is a good one and a hard one. I like the ending to the excellent poem.
