Ireland

Ireland

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

My country, My Mother.

"
Home to many myths,
Few are rarely true,
God is their savior,
Hope they bestow in you,
Green and lush is their country,
Blue and Grey are their sky's,
Red apples are their cheeks,
Their sweet humble rhubarb pie,
Great Atlantic their ocean,
Irish sea their waters,
Bog land their grail,
There cooking in mortar,
farming their living,
Patrick their saint,
Shamrock their emblem,
English they 'aint.

I have always dreamt of Ireland as the land of poets, pubs and dont-care-revolutionaries. Your poem, though satirical, gives a new perspective. Loved this one as much as I loved that that brilliant Irish movie-Once.

Having Irish parents I spent my youth visiting this beautiful country..went back for St Patrick's Day celebrations and it was a memorable experience! You can't beat an Irishman for a good night out! loved this and so would my mother!

I love this - how i would love to visit your Ireland it is so beautiful.
As with all Nations it has had strife and is still standing strong.
Your last line is a good one~ lol

oh lovely work! loved the line "English they 'aint" I'm sure it's something mocking to them! great job!

I like the last line a lot. The Irish won't be mistaken for a English man. English people are afraid of showing emotion. Take a man that know beer and woman to understand best to dance and sing. Never know what tomorrow may bring. A outstanding poem. Thank you.

HAhahaha...delightful! You'll find me wearing the green on St. Patty's Day. I'm proud of my Scot-Irish lineage. We hold The Highland Games here each year in the Appalachians as well. Love the ending!
