Having dealt with religious fanaticism and tribalism I can tell you seriously twisted interpretations of holy words in the hands of the unreasonably Xenophobic is a sure fire catastrophe with a short, quick fuse.
Really good poem Thomas. Great Photo of you too. You're a rather handsome lad.
My own thoughts and beliefs are reflected in Neva's words. The rules and history of each and every religion give us pause. People of today can find comfort in what they believe, while others who don't understand convey ignorance. A very controversial topic, regardless of which specific religion, and one that will, unfortunately, most likely further the divide of the human race. Very well expressed, Tom.
Sometimes I think those religious ones don't have any idea what they are even talking about, let alone doing in their actions to 'convert' others and persuade them from whatever lifestyle they hold.
Even though above thinks fantasy is all but fiction,
Even though his followers be true fiction as reality,
I especially like the skillful wordplay in these verses. The poem in its entirety demonstrates out loud how diverse your writing style can be, each time having achieved remarkable mastery of form and content. Your "Author's Note", then, shows your sensitivity toward differences in and for all of us when life matters such as religion and spirituality are concerned. I, for one, have a serious dislike toward institutionalized religion or masked spirituality efforts. Regardless -as you noted- I have enjoyed your thoughts and reflections on these issues very much. Thank you for the read request. I may have otherwise missed this rare opportunity.
I agree with Neva. Basically people are going to do what they want when they want. It's tough to change another as change comes from within even though that's hard to grasp at times. I consider myself pretty spiritual, but yet I do not attend church because I feel that churches tend to hide things from their people and almost as if to try to convey a message that is completely irrelevant to anything. I myself like to learn things on my own and take thins into my own interpretation as I don't read the Bible as a historical document, but rather a symbolical piece where you read the story, learn the lesson, and interpret into modern-day life. Sort of like reading Aesop's Fables. I do pray every single day, but I don't feel the necessity of gathering people together to worship as one, when worshiping is a very self-centered thing as most people ask for forgiveness or help in some way or another. Great poem, keep up the good work.
Despite- we know- the light guide us to our destiny- the roads are sometime smooth and sometime the rocky mountains...All we need is the faith..on HIM and on ourselves...
Amazing write..inspired me to think about what we exactly mean to ourselves and to HIM
"'Dare he condemn?
Dare we cry?
For the truth is in the mist as we come alive."
I believe if people read the New Testament. Their words of hate would be less. Jesus taught love and forgiveness. The Old Testament is old rules used by people with no conscious in Asia and Africa. We need to know kindness and hope. Not concern ourselves with people with different thoughts and life. No-one is the same. Each of us want more or less. A powerful poem. Made me think. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.
