Mental?

Mental?

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

Mental Health, something I've become all to aware of and wont allow to beat me yet!

"
Grasp at those objects to hold one still,
For he awakes and we know his ill,
A time to cage the mind and squeeze,
Take note of tears he wont appease.

Fragile brains dwindle in castrated silence,
Those able to ignore to heed for guidance,
Black is our tunnel now no light escape,
Laughing words of those caught by nape.

Believe in monsters as they reside within,
Devils mostly to scar and rip the skin,
Preach as mush gossip as your lips allow,
A spindle turns for each stich quite under brow,

Yes it's bleak and we take no solace,
For mental health is a thing of promise,
Is there a way out? I for one think no,
However it's likely that I too shall grow.

your wording is careful and powerful....when one is in this state, everything is overwhelming. There seems no way out...ask Sylvia Plath, John Berryman and others...
Poets often write themselves out of depression...for some, the typing can go from here to eternity with no such luck...and eternity comes sooner rather than later.

depression to differing depths afflicts us all me thinks ... bio-chemical imbalances ..a persons "growing up" ... overwhelming circumstances all squeeze ..until no resolution can be seen .. thank goodness it is finally well recognized as an illness ... education lending to understanding hearts and minds .. your speaker has had enough of words that try to encourage wrongly by preaching or saying well ... just buck it up :(( only making worse the alienation and despair ... i think your poem gives insight where there are demons and darkness .. a light ironically ;) be well .. peace and joy!

Thank you N
Medicines can help control it, but as yet there is no cure.

Indeed, thank you John
dear Thomas... Kindness is a cure... when received with a tear. Nature has it's
fear within.. but then when others understand... it is like music to your soul.
Listen to the wind and watch the wings of a hummingbird... so fragile and yet...
keeps going on and on... an inspiration par none. truly, Pat

Very powerful diagnosis of this sad and hurtful disease in a poetic style of your sir. It is prevalent indeed and caused by many reasons. Glad you are back writing.

You are welcome sir Fitzgerald...
a well documented write. depression doesnt let go easily and forbids you to tell or ask for help. its not easily understood to those not affected. a nice write on those taboo subjects on mental health.
