Mental?

Mental?

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

Mental Health, something I've become all to aware of and wont allow to beat me yet!

"
Grasp at those objects to hold one still,
For he awakes and we know his ill,
A time to cage the mind and squeeze,
Take note of tears he wont appease.

Fragile brains dwindle in castrated silence,
Those able to ignore to heed for guidance,
Black is our tunnel now no light escape,
Laughing words of those caught by nape.

Believe in monsters as they reside within,
Devils mostly to scar and rip the skin,
Preach as mush gossip as your lips allow,
A spindle turns for each stich quite under brow,

Yes it's bleak and we take no solace,
For mental health is a thing of promise,
Is there a way out? I for one think no,
However it's likely that I too shall grow.

your wording is careful and powerful....when one is in this state, everything is overwhelming. There seems no way out...ask Sylvia Plath, John Berryman and others...
Poets often write themselves out of depression...for some, the typing can go from here to eternity with no such luck...and eternity comes sooner rather than later.

I understand the above lines. I had anger issues when I was young. I control them. But sometime, I feel like a bomb. Hello my friend. I hope you are doing well and staying safe. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

As someone who suffers form mental illness I find this quite inspiring. You capture the darkness of the disease with every word. I especially like the way you added light at the end of the tunnel for there is always hope for those who look for it. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes to you.

Monsters of our own creation are the worst kind but also the only kind that can be truly defeated by us xo

well captured - perhaps too well. sometimes we must pass through that dark tunnel to emerge in light. problem is when we stay trapped. growing can be painful. clever, hopeful twist to conclude ... :)

Thank you.
Some great truths in this poem. Mental castration or mental straitjacketing, for one. The tragic toll the medication takes. Almost a lobotomy in itself. Is there a way out? Not really but as you said, within it, one can grow. We can overcome the pain to a certain extent. Life can be bearable inspite of it....

Thank you.
These are such powerful words. I feel there is no way out really. Just a day to day battle and making the most of it. That’s all we can do really. Love this insight into Bipolar.

THank you.
certainly nothing pretty about all this
Have been somewhat exposed to it which is in itself quite depressing
You are doing some heavy thinking

Deep inside, we all feel we're a longer distance from "normal" than we'd ever care to admit.
Those who suffer manic depression must also learn to deal with sudden disruptive extremes.
This is not a battle one would care to choose.
May God bless you, Thomas, and make your path less rocky.
