Funny Death!

Funny Death!

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

Those times when we look back on ones life and can only laugh, within of course!

"
Grey fills my cheeks and settles old scores,
Apoptosis in full swing as if to dance and scold,
Prepare yourself dear sweet little fellow,
For wings carry and claws clasp on the bold.

Ah yes, here we are with incense and candle light,
Tears abound on lying faces kneeling in the pew,
Cantillate my good man have a gesture or two,
Arise in time for supper only wine for the few.

Short seconds are spared in mud and caskets,
Beautiful smiles lay waste to foul rumour,
Degust on a banquet not paid for by you,
Chuckles of charity for that glaikits humour.

Logomachy is so often the case with scholars ,
What matter now isn't he dead and done,
No more sensual please to be leeched on me,
Lets face it though sometimes it was fun!

great vocab T.
The black humour is quintessentially Irish and has kept a nation from going under (so to speak lmao)

Great piece here - worthy of Wilde.

You should create a book of all your poetry; it's really good

you called me "darling" :))
nice you are back Sir Thomas! and with a boulder blaster of a poem ...you had me grabbing me ol' dictionary straight away ..so thank you for so many new words for me ... when i read a poem such as this ..there is nothing to say ..nothing that seems to want changing or re-arranging ... the scene is one that is always awkward and disturbing for all ... and heavy with the pain of loss for those who loved and lost this soul .. you are so spot on in your peeling the onion of faking, contriving and downright lying at times ... the satire is street smart and real ... there will be no service for me ... just a fond goodbye to be said by family and ashes put to dust as is want in the apoptosis process ;) i hope you will stay a while sir

ahahahaha! you are so welcome :)
There's something that seems so undignified about a traditional funeral, with the corpse all done up in flowers like they won the Kentucky derby, or like they're a table centerpiece at Thanksgiving. Ceremony helps us feel like we're keeping things close to us that might otherwise slip away, but at the same time, is that always a good thing to do when so much of the world is transient. As the Buddhists say, suffering is clinging to that which wants to change. I find that often to be very true, unhappy as it is.

I liked the thoughts in the poem and the above lines were so damn good. Thank you dear Thomas for sharing your amazing work.

Thank you Coyote.
A powerful comeback with a powerful subject. You lay the truth and bare all to see . You nail the words on the coffins of ignorance. Kudos....::::)))))

Seems people so often focus on the irony rather than facts at times, having lived through several experiences of such, I relate...nice to see you hon and read you today :)
