Will.

Will.

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

My thoughts from the grave side.

"
There is that unwilling smile crafted to perfection,
They mean well of course but time and place,
No meaning as the sun touches the torn earth,
This space will forever be marked now the case.

The mind drifts you see to sentiment and memory,
Never far but enough to guide in happiness,
Marred by death and an unwilling spirit that's you,
Oh safe no more plausible than is greatness.

Rings bound us in faith and love made a prison,
For which escape had no essence in life times still,
That smile again as those mourners stare on,
Will forever be a down fall my dear sweet Will.

Gone to a better place, I very much doubt it,
There is no better place than by my side,
Emotions ebb and flow they tell me such knowledge!
Can leave as you have left gone and died.

This sounds like something Edgar Allen Poe could have written -- and of course this is a huge compliment. It tackles such a dwelling, universal topic and you've dealt with it beautifully.

Thank you Valentine.
Sad poem about dealing with death. I can feel the satire when you say "Gone to a better place, I very much doubt it." You never really know what happens after death, and unfortunately that's the way it is. I also liked the incorporation of the smiles. "They mean well of course." True tale of condolences, yet it hardly means a thing. Good poem!

Sad poem. I don't think you go anywhere when you die either. You just don't exist anymore. Like before you were born.

A well written commentary on loss. We know 'They mean well of course' but that's not always enough. But then, it is often awkward for them to salve the wound. Good writing.

I lost someone once. Someone very precious.
People said all the standard things:

She's in a better place.
God needed an angel.
God this... God that...
She's at peace...

Honestly, it was really annoying and made me angry.
I just needed to be held and to cry. And cry. But no one offered that.
Just empty words.

Anyhow. You're poem is lovely. I think it describes very well these thoughts from beside the grave...

A very very powerful write. I'm glad I stopped to read this.

rings that made a prison-
that death doesn't us part...
doesn't separate immediately
