Yes or No Vote!A Poem by Thomas FitzgeraldWith a looing referendum on gay marriage in Ireland, and me as of yet undecided, I do what I do best - write about it - enjoy.Gaining independence left us with an insular society, A given though, that we made no bones about it, We had that scamp on our screens Hilton Edwards, Indeed how could we get out from underneath the pit. The seventies dawned with us still in law's grip, Ancient men with dust for morals lay in power, Young David Norris refusing to kneel and pout, A ruling against the mother land shook the dower. Ah the Celtic tiger in all her glory stuffed our pockets, Now socially acceptable when the Euro exchanges hands, Behold the inner working of Europe upon us few, The old adage holding true, money talks in buying lands. Hannigan, Lyons and Zappone the scattered pioneers, Abated breath looms towards our shores once anew, To the polls they cry for a yes or not vote tiny liberty, Gay marriage the bulls eye let's take all the crew! © 2015 Thomas FitzgeraldAuthor's Note
