Gypsy.

Gypsy.

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A look at times gone by and coming back.

"

Raging seas beat harshness in souls,

Left behind in doorways once clean,

Take flight and keep true dear witch,

As magic dies tonight for the moons gleam.

A tiny bottle holds life and good fortune,

Few coins can buy happiness and power,

The pinchers on carts of busheling hens,

Those people that roam from fields sour.

Yellowed grasses are never far on foot,

Bleaching cloth to wear on Sunday pure,

Girls reveal the grace bestowed upon them,

Until men gathered round and showed sure.

Gypsy life has changed in times gone by,

We hold tradition and shame close to hand,

Never tell of those workings behind blinds,

As country people have lied waste on land.

Honestly... I found this poem scathing reminder of how duplicit social constructs often become.
The line I felt showed this best was the line about girls revealing their grace and men showing their natures...
We never really do know what goes on behind those blinds...

An honest write if ever I read one.

I enjoyed the poem. I got lucky in 1976-1980 I was station in Germany. I met some Gypsies and became friend. They accepted me because I had laughter and always a gallon of whiskey with. All cultures had changed, The old ways and beliefs are fading to myth. I miss the old traditions. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry. I hope you are doing well and enjoying the holidays.

I figure we are also starting to understand how traditions have a strong support in scientific research these days. Its coming together.

Selling a few bottles of that magic elixir and dancing round the fire....reminds me of "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" but times have changed, that's for sure. The mystical magical side of life has nearly vanished in the electronic age and we do accept different lifestyles far more than we used to. A very well written poem. Great rhyming You are a good story teller.

Indeed, I think you did!
What hasn't changed Thomas, they say change is good, I'd have to disagree in some instances. One of my favorite subjects and you did it superbly, as always. Happy New Year my friend!

A very layered piece with wonderful story-telling.

I like it - a very thoughtful piece and an interesting choice of subject matter - one minor question: Is the use of lied intentional to be a double entendre, or did you want laid? Just asking.:)
