The Great!

The Great!

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A look at Alexander the Great.

"

Power of the sun harnessed within you,

Times before Christ you regent of all,

A warrior of time and of equals,

The loving heart to crush enemies to fall.

Waiting in wings of respect and silence,

Staring always at that man made of stone,

Till death you harnessed men all around,

Then finally succeeding your father to the throne.

A heart of honesty yet held gripped by the mind,

Those many people surround and trust decides,

A child comes forth to rest in your arms,

No love leaves most but in your soul resides.

Many wives have claimed your seed their own,

You refuse as the Great you certainly are,

Yet give hope and guilds to that Persian boy,

Alexander the cities now crumble my shining star.

Alexander was, indeed, one of the greatest warriors ever to walk the earth and felled many a mighty kingdom with his military genius and massive armies. sad, indeed, how he met his end. it is thought he may have been poisoned by those whom he most trusted, and that he was weakened by love. military strategists still study his actions to this very day. this is an amazing and complex write, but it truly delivers!

Thank you
He could not conquer the world, but I do believe he came closer than anyone has. One warrior, hover great, is not great enough. Perhaps that's as it should be.

Totally loving the flow of this poem. It's a wonderful gift to be able to make rhymes in a poem appear so seamlessly. I look forward to reading more of your writing! ~Never Forget
