Common Man

Common Man

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A look at what we are fast becoming.

"

Tasteless times have laid the either of tomorrow,

Once happy with our lot we now search for more,

Take heed of our inheritance and leave no stone uncovered,

Be well to mind our thoughts and never fail to soar.

Breaking lines upon hours of reverence and spoils,

Gathered wishes and dreams do halt a smirking lip,

Seared talents and fingers make marks on pale cheeks,

A fever runs north from root to heart to tip.

Goblins roam free among those once innocent,

Devout now again praise all that follow bells,

Stack plate upon plate and wash dirt to the hole,

A gathering army shrivel twice in size one tells.

Eager minds with meagre spirits lead us all,

False hope and sex are common to man,

Birds flock and whistle so no ear can close tight,

Swallow all things harsh allow no ban.

So long you fool and take your education too,

Shove right and wrong in purses so fat,

Gauge lines to follow ships forth and find,

The truth in mist forever covered in that.

"False hope and sex are common to man,"
A lot of honest words in the poem. Most of us fall to weaknesses and fear. Better to be fearless and crazy then live a dead man life. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poem.

An Irish toast , ' May you live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live.' A poem that observes well, better than knows the ways of love.

so many colorful and wonderful conveyances and euphemisms throughout this elaborately stylish piece it is difficult to confine the imagination to one singular line. you have definitely re-emerged a stronger and more sensitive writer, my friend....well done!

No problemo
"A fever runs north from root to heart to tip" - don't know why but I especially like this bit, creates powerful image. Really nicely written, and though provoking, philosophy, real value and purpose of live sort of thing. :)
