Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope

A Poem by Kirsten Mair

Through the tunnel we crawl,
Crushing claustrophobia; carefully
Leaving our sepia stained notions
Stuck on neglected pages.
Waiting for the descendants,
To clear the layer of dust
That clouds our enigma.

Swiftly tearing through this
Suffocating smog; smiling
At the prospect of sweet release.
Never looking back to consider,
Our lack of interest in our own ancestors.
Did they leave us their own traces in vain?
Then I am engulfed in resplendent colour.
