Red Letters

Red Letters

A Poem by clayton_97

The letters I write, they are in red

They listen to me, the things I’ve said

And they lay me down, down to sleep

Peaceful sleep, sleep so deep

Red letters, red letters I see them now

Running silently, I can tell them how

I want to leave, and walk away

Not to sit, and not to stay

Red letters, red letters come to me now

I need to learn, teach me how

To handle it all, to deal with the pain

To walk through it all without being slain

Red letters, red letters you’ve done so well

Hear me now, come to quell

All the sadness and all the hurt

To lay me down beneath the dirt

The casket closing, I hear them speak

Assuring me that I’m not weak

No indeed, for I am strong

To have lasted for so long.
