Harmattan

Harmattan

A Poem by Deos Fortioribus Adesse
"

harmattan as defined by an online dictionary is hot, dry wind that blows from the northeast or east in the western Sahara and is strongest in late fall and winter (late November to mid-March)...

"

She was the kind of girl the old folks warned you about,

They said wherever she tread, like a shadow close behind was drought,

There were tales of how the keys to her heart had come to be covered in rust,

They said her kisses tasted like dust,

Presumably, the result of her nomadic nature,

You fell in love with her at your own peril, for she would be gone sooner or later,

For all she ever desired was to be free,

Free to wander about like a gypsy on the breadline.
