His Story Repeats

I was really into studying the ancients Greeks and thought I saw modern reflections. So, I tried to capture my vision.

Athenian wine fills our coffers
Their dream and gods society offers
One of many States of Greece
Dedicated to a twisted peace
Collected wealth for patriotic chores
Athens was viced by creating wars
Suckling on the teat of tax
Placed upon the common backs
Gazing sternly over seas
Casting votes to know enemies
With good reason the more they fought
The more from all the States they sought
Until they ruled as a single mind
Over the rest of Greece who couldn't find
A way to pay for schools or food
So Athens declared these things lewd
Thus Athens raped the States of Greece
Convincing them they were defending peace
True to history repeating self
The Pentagon is now here to help....
