SOARING UPWARD

SOARING UPWARD

A Poem by Bill Grimke-Drayton
"

Flying high brings release from the earth of old life

"

I rise from scarred earth

like an unleashed eagle,

in slow, languid flight

weave in and out

of fleecy clouds,

wings touch empty space

between, but yearning

for freedom of open heights,

I soar upward

further where it is

darkest blue beyond,

to remain,

live hopes and dreams,

forgetting

I ever existed

within a finite landscape.
