LOVE PRETENDINGA Poem by Bill Grimke-DraytonMy first true love after I came out, but it was a hopeless, unequal love, which had no future to it.You once walked with me down narrow streets towards the room, pretending we could hide in secret tryst our shared hours, away from invisible, pointing fingers, with your comrades I never met, and people we passed who lived apart from us. Deep thrust into the sickness of truth, my grieving heart craved for what could not be given by you for me. We bade each other farewell, as strangers in a game you chose; I the loser, returning home to what I knew. © 2015 Bill Grimke-Drayton |
