Life in the vault.A Chapter by UltimateArsenalKent's way of life since he was 8.Kent finishes twisting the screw that came loose from the vault's water purification pump. Kent is sixteen years old and he has spent the past eight years in the vault. He doesn't remember what the outside world even looks like anymore but from what he has heard he really doesn't want to leave the safety of the vault. He is the vault's second best mechanic which means he is called to fix leaks in the air filters and water purifiers. The most kent has gotten to shooting a gun is the basics every kid learns in the event of evacuation. Kent gathers his tools and begins to leave when Damon stops him. "Where do you think you're going?" Damon asked clearly looking for trouble. "Fixing the water pumps." Kent replied. "Look at you, trying to help out as much as you can. Good it's better you fix the air than giving you the title of guardian." Damon laughed, pleased with the comment. Guardians are what we call the guards of the vaults. Damon left, now that he wasn't bored and Kent went to his room he has in the lower levels of the vault to clean up before heading to dinner. Once he was ready he left his room and went to the diner on the middle level. He ordered the same as he always does. Medium rare steak with cheese sticks. Kent finished his meal and went back to his room to sleep until morning. He woke to his dad shaking him. "Get up and help me fix the levies on the main door." Kent hurried up and threw some of his mechanic overalls and followed his dad to the door. Fixing the vault's main door is the most exciting thing Kent ever wanted to do instead of everyone else wanting to learn grenade throws and other fighting styles. The two of them got to the door and began fixing it. "Pretty cool, right?" His dad said to Kent. "Yes,this is amazing!" They finished the door and went back to their room to sleep the remainder of the night. Kent awoken on his own this time and he thought he would have breakfast. He got to the diner and saw his friend Mason. "Hey Mason". "What's up Kent?" Mason asked. "I just got up and came here for something to eat." "So you haven't heard yet?" "Heard what?" Kent looked at Mason curiously. "A scouting team went out to observe the wastes and only two made it back and they're injured also they had a team of eight with them." Kent didn't like it when people he knew dies and this is really bad."Where did they go?" Kent asked Mason. "I have no clue Mr. Anderson Won't give any information away to anyone." "Oh. Then it must be too alarming to tell anyone now." "Yeah, you might have a point there but I heard people saying they don't trust the safety of the vault, like they're scared the main door isn't powerful enough to keep fiends out." Mason looked down at his food. "That must be why my dad had me help him with the main door." Kent told Mason. "Is there anything wrong with it?" Mason asked almost desperately. "No, There's no way people can get though that." Mason sighed in relief. "That's good. Well I need to go to the medical room, catch you later Kent." Mason was one of the vault's doctors. "See ya Mase." Kent left too without eating and checked the pumps as he always does. © 2013 UltimateArsenalAuthor's Note
