Working Title

A Poem by Kiera
"

It doesn't have a title yet, but this is one of my first few attempts at a villanelle.

"

A twitch of the eye and a purse of the lips,

Your face contorts when something seems wrong.

Deep breaths, long sighs, reality flips.

You’re losing control, clawing your hips,

Surrounded by friends, but you don’t belong,

So you twitch your eye and purse your lips.

Worlds away, your life-force slips.

You knew you were crazy all along.

Deep breaths, long sighs, reality flips.

A nail to the face and your eyeball rips.

You cup your hands and only prolong

The twitch of your eye and the purse of your lips.

But the pain takes over and sanity tips.

Over the edge, no longer strong.

Deep breaths, long sighs, reality flips.

And you land on your back as the blood drips

Down your face and ruins your song.

A twitch of the eye and a purse of the lips,

Deep breaths, long sighs, reality flips.

It's still a work-in-progress, this is just a rough draft. I'm hoping to tweak it a little bit.
