She Can't Fish

She Can't Fish

A Poem by Kieran James McGovern

Sweetie, there aren’t many fish

In such a shallow pool

Cast your line with Prince Charming in mind

You’re nothing but a fool

You’re playing hard to get

And feel rotten

When you aren’t gotten

If you can’t be real

About how you feel

You’re easily forgotten

I could venture onto a flimsy limb

A million times and again

The laden boughs hang downward

Like corners of a mouth’s candid grin

The stream of effluent you’re fishing in

A servant to emotions broken

Kid, I’m only moved by whim

Your mind and soul closed, my door is open

Kid, it’s always been
