Pride Misplaced

Pride Misplaced

A Poem by Kieran James McGovern

At a lack of freedom

Despite the pride

Ignorance eats us up inside

Election day approaches

Like a cannon ball

But does it matter if we vote all

Adopt a new ideology

If you really wanna be free

Seek only the truth

Not non-existent WMDs

America’s no longer number one

In anything anymore

Tell me to leave, perhaps you should

It’s the purpose of pride I’m fighting for

Can’t be done by war

Nor by blaming the poor

For all the s**t

We are now in

That government’s responsible for

Operation: Iraqi Liberation

Hundreds of thousands of innocents dead

One trillion dollars wasted

Kids ill-equipped and unprepared

You left them scared and dying there

Like the immigrant soldiers promised citizenship

You then evicted, deported and treated like s**t

Islam isn’t the enemy

As said by systemic bigotry

They’d just as soon leave you and I to die

Drowning in the oil-ridden Gulf of Lies

Our souls made into “yellow cake uranium”

Sure of the soul’s existence then

The price of salvation

Pride in a nation

Wide awake are we

Escape damnation

Proscribe, purport

Deceive, extort

Like tyranny is our national sport
