Two-Way Street

Two-Way Street

A Poem by Kieran James McGovern
"

:/

"

I cruise along a two-way street in the middle of the desert

With a passion of a thousand suns

Mo(u)rning raises a toast

And twilight falls

I watch it all…

The cloudless night’s sky affords full sight

Of all constellations, I know where they are

In relation to the North Star

I always find my way home

Steam like summertime’s fallen souls rise in

Waves from roads interposing the horizon

Over rolling dales in Midwestern states

Where images of indigenous villages
Sit still beneath our sky of slate

The fog is blocking my view

In a forest

Where my consciousness will condense in dew

By morning’s light

And I’ll be home

I cruise along this lonely two-way street

Still haven’t seen you

Won’t beep at you or chase you

But the off-ramp is coming up soon
