i can't speak

i can't speak

A Poem by Kieran James McGovern

Everything that’s right

Is all that’s left behind

And all the words unsaid

Echo in the winds of time

Tears who were once spent

Evaporate and their essence

Sediments

Ferment

Regret

Regrets

I will take everyone I know

To a field gone fallow

Where the starving, hollow hearts

Finish battles they can’t start

But anyway nothing here is real

Short of hatred, short of zeal

Within the walls I often breach

It feels criminal for me to even speak

No one makes it out alive

All wayfarers pay the toll

Tenacious, sullen smiles

Haggard, harrowed souls

The sentiments congeal

Before the wound can heal

Expect

The worst

Discard

The curse

I will leave everyone behind

Out of sight and out of mind

I cannot pay

I won’t f*****g pay

Just to wish to wish all earthly problems

Far away

For today

A temporary thing

With evanescing lyrics here to sing

I can’t speak
