a man

a man

A Poem by Kieran James McGovern

Mine is a stride you’ll not soon break

Although at times, I berate myself

I wonder why

I’ve got pictures in my to remind me

Of all I have seen

What I am

And what I have been

The journey I'm set to begin

My signature is down

On the ground floor of hell

I’ve known it well

And no petty clout

Of any cloudy contempt

Has the least affect

on me

See

I refuse to cower in the glower of hateful eyes

Or the tacit hatred they’d not dare

To verbalize

‘Cause trust me, I hear the gawks

And I see the wicked thoughts

But I’m forced to live above

I’ll look the devil dead-on

And smile

Yes

Mine is a swagger you’ll never approach

I’ve been and I’ve seen

And done mostly on my own

I’ve been all alone

And I’ve been in high demand

Half as soon a boy

But always a man… ;)
