War

War

A Poem by Kieran James McGovern
"

"the only war worth winning is the one inside your head"

"

I apologized the final time

Two ships passing in the night

Words only express so much

Eventually it’s time to fight

Here’s my hardest, give me yours

Here in hell, when it rains it pours

Deluge of truth springs leaks of grief

In the dam you built to “keep your people free”

And you’ve got your world, I’ve got mine

And we’re just playing pantomime

Impressed with all you represent

No regrets and you’re content

The ones you killed appraise the waste

Bombs and names to drop in haste

Intentions in a shallow grave

You’d just forget ‘em anyway

One right way, a thousand wrong

To detonate your roadside bomb

Ask the ones who started it

Sort their retarded s**t

‘Cause pretexts only say enough

To fleece the fools, to dupe the dumb

‘Cause freedom starts within our minds

And I apologized the final time
