As Told by a Babylonian

As Told by a Babylonian

A Poem by Kieran James McGovern

The demons

I dreamt I’d purged

Have made their return

Camped just

Outside city limits

Poised to lay siege

Waiting with abated arms

Sweetly seductive war cries abound

The sound haunts me

They surround me

Taunt me

It confounds me

To see the negativity

That lives quietly within me

Take form

If at first timidly

Broken notions proliferate

And create my worst enemy

They live where

Simplicity used to be

And now nothing is left

Nothing is for granted anymore

With the legions of hell

Knocking at the door
