Friendly Fire (A Soldier’s Song)

Come back to honesty and

Leave your mind far behind then

Figure out what life’s about

Don’t question, never doubt

Simplify the abstraction

Analyze but a fraction

No shackles, no more chains

Just reptilian brains

You have eyes like mine

You have eyes like mine

 You should stop thinking

Best advice that’s been given

Turn a blind eye to the universe

Try not to try to escape the curse

Maybe you’ll sustain this burden

In a place where nothing’s certain

Uncle Sam won’t lead you home

Your gun will leave you all alone

Your finger rules the bullet

Fast on the trigger, pull it

But who rules your mind?

The blind leading the blind

I’m mortal

You’re mortal

Regaining your hearing

Now the smoke is clearing

All your limbs intact

All your senses coming back

No one else is moving

It’s what it means to be human

When we’re governed by instinct

We relinquish the will to think

Now we’re winning the title

And fulfilling our bible

We resolve to refuse to evolve

And subject ourselves to this cycle
