Journeying 2006

A Poem by Kieran James McGovern

The eternal nocturnal chasm

The vast, residual canyon

It offers you solace in the wake of dissipation

And donates a few kind words, confident you’ll waste them
Negative space that can take everything away

Barren and void smoldering ashes of the day

The black matter in your soul that can never be defined

It’s the same brilliant pulsar that once left you blind

Hey, meandering wanderer

I wonder how you’d feel

Beneath your pierced eyes and your blood-coated face

This is all there ever was

And as you sit in this pit in the poorly feigned opacity of a dream

Tell me

What does life mean?

A repetition of the same familiar story

It’s the new week’s ancient allegory

And you make your forced oath

Marbleized in lost hope

“May I now propose a toast to tomorrow?”

You know who you are

You’ll never be lost

In your cross-examination of existence

You feel benevolently giving and resistant

And repudiate the love you hate

An out-of-state

It’s fucked up to realize

Your eyes are blinded by a life of lies

But it’s your choice

Sprawl yourself down on the tracks

Or take the next train through
