Because Kids Are NaiveA Poem by Kieran James McGovern2006
Because Kids are Naïve 4/06 I’ve outdone Ponce de Lion I’ve found El Dorado It’s tranquil and it’s vacant It is to be “complacent” To exist and to pursue those things that satisfy you And determine for yourself, no one else, all that is true Affluence, celebrity, the things they signify They don’t matter, in the end, my friend, we’re all going to die There will be no first place, there is no grand prize Social class only exists in a world of lies Life is too short, and too tumultuous To live for the tomorrow that may never come to us There’s no silver platter But the money doesn’t matter As the workers work, the poor all die, and elite keep getting fatter Placidity, that’s the Fountain of Youth That’s the only aspiration and that’s the only truth So exhale your stress with an indifferent sigh Take things as they come because there is no reason why © 2009 Kieran James McGovernReviews
