Addict

A Poem by Kieran Davidson

My name is Kieran, I'm an addict
And my vices they aint few
I made my bed of nasty habits
Long before I learned to use

But that bed became a bedroom
And that room became a house
And I built it with such care
That I would never need go out

And I didn't for a long time
Comfortable within it's confines
Owning every ounce as only mine
My silence by my side

Now I don't live there anymore
The building built with both my hands
And I've been waiting for those walls to fall
But that house of cards still stands

I don't demand your understanding
Of the way I've lived my lives
Don't give a damn if we're together
When to your answers you've arrived

I am content
This time I've spent is fleeting
Meeting only for a time
And though soon gone
I may be wrong
But lives are made to leave behind

Wow. This is really really good. I'm sorry you've gone through these struggles in your life and I am incredibly proud of you for making it through every single day you thought you wouldn't. This is incredible. The rhyming and rhythm is perfect and the flow is fantastic. You've managed to make this really concise and flowing narrative of what you've gone through and how it has affected you and it all rhymes!! This is fantastic.
