Snowglobe

Snowglobe

A Poem by Kiddo

he kissed her goodnight and the snow danced around her

this beautiful snowglobe she'd confined herself to felt restrictive

closed off and suffocating

or maybe he'd just taken her breath away

walking up the stairs got the blood circulating through her legs

the hallways were silent and still

she fumbled for keys with her mittened hands

and felt the snow melting down her back

she let herself in and leaned her back up against the doorway

centering herself and keeping her thoughts in the hallway, on the other side of the door

coat on the floor, shoes kicked off under the bed

organization was overrated anyway

she opened her windows and let the freezing air flow sharply into her lungs

this winter air was easier to breathe

she flipped on the coffee pot listened to it hiss as she pressed the button on her answering machine

her mother had called her again, once again gently nagging her to call home more often

someone from the phone company with a question about collect calls

a wrong number hang up call

her best friend

and finally, he called

he called as she was walking up the stairs

he called to say goodnight

to thank her for a great evening

and how they'd have to do it again soon

at the end he gently said "goodnight, kiddo"

she pulled open her curtains and felt the slow smile creep across her face

she tried not to blush as his voice filled her empty room

and she was failing miserably

it felt as if her snowglobe world was being shaken up

and everything was caught up in flurries around her

she crawled between the covers and closed her eyes, breathing in the winter air and coffee smells

she felt home

she felt happy

she felt at peace

in spite of all of the chaos, and the changes, and the fear of the unkown

she felt content

You have written this in a fabulous manner so the reader will have the impression of watching a scene out of a romantic movie. Your writing is great. I like it. Well done. Looking forward to read an other one of yours.
