Just the Option

Just the Option

A Poem by K.H. Law
"

I guess this is about how I've never really been truly and properly in love with someone.

"

Never have I felt the full force of love;

my time has never been novels,

but sentences.

Never had I seen the whole picture,

but fragments.

I’ve heard sweet words and

felt warm breath upon me.

I’ve felt swept up just as

it all sweeps past me,

towards someone else again.

Never have I competed for the

gaze or attention of a lover in the

face of another.

Never have I been given those

sweet gifts, though, without asking.

I’ve been led to believe,

through words and warmth,

that I’m an object of longing.

I’ve been brought to think that

I’m worth the want.

Never have I been sought for,

desperately, endlessly, passionately.

Never have I, truly been, the

goal in another’s mind.

Just the option.

This is the second poem of yours I have read and it may be even better than the first. Never stop writing, you have a gift.
