Desire

Desire

A Poem by AKhaus

In the dark, as the rattling of my chains silenced, I saw something in the light which glistened off that speck of dust.
My cage smelled of rust and yet my hunger never ceased in this trial, this ended judgement.
The scent of the metal strangely heightened my senses and I needed red.
Triggered by this aching, I had to escape.
I knew there was a path but my feet had lost their footing and had been planted to this cold steel as though they gave me rooting in that shame.
And then, I snapped and none of it mattered but my craving.
The hell I had created to keep me still, to hold me to normalcy blew so quickly as a candle’s extinguished fire.
Salivating, hyper-focused on the jawline guiding me to the throbbing vein just pushing your life through.
I needed red.
