falling back

falling back

A Poem by AKhaus

I'm falling back but please know I tried.
Please remember that my hands were so tightly gripped on that hope.
The fairy tale seemed to fade under the smoke of my war.
I am falling back and I hope you know I tried.
Please remember that it meant everything to be near you as you slept.
The dream had to wake.
No amount of heaven can stop the demons I must fight.
I try to hide but it's always a matter of time that they find...
Just remember I couldn't just let you stay as the ship was sinking.

These lines radiate pain. It appears that a relationship that meant much was in the end unable to flourish. The speaker accepts responsibility for the breakup, citing inner "demons." I take that to mean emotional problems, probably depression. Apparently the speaker initiated the ending because the inner pressures became too much. One can only hope things have, or will, improve.
