in the dead of the water

in the dead of the water

A Poem by AKhaus

Trapped in the coldest sea, I am waiting for you to return to me.
Faint echoes of the church organ fill my head in this black and empty flood.
I can still see you seeing me.
There is something missing, something missing without you here with me.
How my soul aches in this almost eternal moment of utter grief.
How could the lightning fade so quickly from this storm when I still need.
I am drifting, just aimlessly drifting in this pool of emotions and memories.
Your hand was slipping but I didn't want to ever let go.
Here I am in the dead of the water wondering how can this be?

This one is heavy with grief. It appears the deceased passed unexpectedly, or maybe of rapid deterioration from an illness. Whatever, the speaker is lost in the throes of bereavement, unable as yet to cope with the loss and attendant sense of emptiness. There is the sense of drifting, of having no direction and uncertainty as to how to regain it. The last line tells it all. Offering words of comfort seems powerless; all I can say is Godspeed.
