“The Grapes of Auburn Breeze” khatoon hazara | 12:15am sat. 4.27.19

I miss the broken leaves
The - sleepy eyes that cascade upon mine
I... I don’t like confrontation and I like everything
in slow motion coz the intensity in my mind is too much

Where are the brittle bones of the carcass
I am far beyond the path
So far... I can’t seem to forget how it started
I forgot about the moon but it’s up there and as
I’m walking, he smiles down on me
and says, “you are the most beautiful being in all the lands” and I
can’t help blushing
But I tell him that he is tired and that he needs rest
A soul so ancestral such as his needs rest, I further conclude to him
and he smiles and nods and dozes off into a deep slumber until
he again wakes in the morning only to find himself on the other
end of our planet.

And as I’m still walking, my bones grow tired and pine for rest
But I will not pause for a moment- for it will only be that I take
a well deserved break where I’ll find the worse things

The sun soothes my entirety
She feels so warm to me it would be rude if I didn’t take a
moment to replenish in her radiance
So I stop and turn to the sun, hands raised in prayer
I don’t say anything, for the lack of words is what is needed
to enjoy this recharge
The sun finally notices and lets out a booming cackle
I blink
Lower my hands from my gaze and turn
I take the deepest of sighs and continue on my way, the sun
following each step and hankering me with questions

I don’t answer
It seems she is jealous of what the moon said to me
But I do not argue or imply anything
And- in fact, my silence implied so much more than
what I’d ever think it would imply
The sun grew angry and read my string of breath as
consent to torment me
So she shone far brighter than she’s ever shone before, staying
where she is
But it did not matter
The stronger she shone, the more persistent were my steps
Until at last
I reached the highest peak of the surface and adamantly
 search for my prize
