“There Is No Peace Where Your Breath Does Not Go”

By: Khatoon Hazara

Listen to the wind and how it mourns

Won’t you listen to a heart that’s been since scorned?

This place has no livelihood, don’t you see?

I just won’t rest until your hearts with me

This world is so dead; alive at the same time

Do you blame me for going out of my mind?

Your breath does not go here

The world itself told me

The leaves since rustled off their respected branches

Down to the floor

In front of my pretty, sparkly shoes

Now why’d they go and do a thing like that?

Your breath does not go here

No, I will not go near

Where your breath does not go

And where your breath does not go to

I will not go

And where I do not go, the wind will follow

What will you do?

If I don’t listen to you,

Tell me what will you do or say?

Will you bring about a rainstorm, a drought, or hurricane?

Or will you make me make myself go insane?

Tell me, will you take all my toys away?

Your breath does not go here

And therefore, you will not see me there
