“Gentle Eyes”

By: Khatoon Hazara

Gentle eyes

Please look upon mine

Gentle eyes

It’s almost a quarter past nine

And maybe together, we can stop time

Gentle eyes, save me from this wretched hell

Be my saving grace

Gentle eyes

As my tears brush my cheeks

Remember me

Gentle eyes

You’ve seen pain distilled in mine

The way it gets so heavy with wetness

And how it falls gently to the floor

Drip-Drop

Gentle eyes

I’ll sing you a song tonight

A song to last you the night

Pretty words laced in wine

Please drink them down to size

Gentle eyes

Here is your lullaby

A soft melody that glows with the morning light

Don’t look for me when you open your eyes

Oh, my gentle eyes

Don’t you push me aside

Or keep me out of your mind

My lovely gentle eyes

You’re my secret homemade ride

I hope you’ll never fade inside
