"I Shall"

By: Khatoon Hazara

I shall have to remember for next time

I shall have to

The rain is making noise outside

The pots and pans all clang together in unison

Singing merry songs of joy and pride

There will be snow tomorrow

There is something light and airy in my heart

Oh! What a sight I am! Jostling and bustling about; busy in the kitchen as I'm usually not

The weather man said it'd storm tonight

Your favorite dish is a …

I can't cook, yet you eat all of my attempted chicken salads, which consists of a single semi-raw chicken drowning in lettuce, tomatoes and one whole cucumber

It's almost 1am and the phone rings

Sometimes you'd come over and it feels like the world has stopped spinning

When you talk to me, the world leans in; hanging on every single word you say

It's you, saying you're outside the door

Supply me with knowledge

Power me with your intellect

You come inside, locking the door behind you, asking for company in my room, upstairs

You deviate me

You make me feel different

I agree, saying we haven't talked in ages

I hate how I feel when you're not around

I feel as if the air within me has been let loose.

I lock my bedroom door as you step inside

I explode, I must admit, sometimes

It's just, not gonna happen, the way it sometimes does

The bed feels soft as you loom ahead in the overhead scene

You fill me with so much excitement

And that makes me so afraid

The moon is still screaming at us to part

I don't want you to go

To leave me and never come back

You and I are becoming one and the moon is yelling at us in envy
