The candle on the window sill.

The candle on the window sill.

A Poem by Fairy Khan

Far away in an abandoned place,
She holds him in her cold embrace.
Storms come and go forth; Still,
A candle keeps burning on their window sill.

She digs herself deeper in his chest,
Unaware of the trouble, they both rest.
The water creeps and howls, Shrill;
A candle keeps burning on their window sill.

The night is moonless and forlorn,
They count the stars up until dawn.
Nothing ever can come between them; ‘Til,
That candle stops burning on their window sill.

This might be becuz I'm already in the mood for Halloween (Oct 31) . . . I read this poem as being between a live person & a dead person. The narrator is a slave to the ghost of this long-gone lover. I get a sense your tone is a little ironic . . . insinuating that "forever" is more like a prison sentence than a gift. This interpretation starts with "cold embrace" which gives a creepy feel to this, instead of being any kind of tribute to someone. I love spooky writes, so to me, this is deliciously creepy (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Lovely piece of writing, some really powerful words here. You've perfectly captured the little hint of warmth being clung to in a chilling environment.

I'm sure this is a bang on hit for many romantics. Chaos and ruts in relations are emphasised so that it can connect with a large section.

Thank you for your words here. :)
Sometimes, just sometimes love endures for better or for worse. That candle goes out all too often, all too easily these days. This rhyming piece has hope writ in it as it flows from stanza to stanza but also a shimmer of trepidation.

'She holds him in her cold embrace', this tells me that this is not a happy place for her to be, and although that candle flickers warmth in the window, this relationship is likely to fail. It brought an arranged marriage to mind where one party is less than content.

You are very welcome Fairy :)
the candle professes warmth...her embrace has grown cold because she is unhappy in her relationship...he warms her like the tip of a candle.
and yet...they cannot be ....the will not go that far and break her vow...she wants love but understands the consequences..
reminds me of a relationship I was in with a best friend...
hit home, Fairy,
j.
