When greatness lies in ignoranceA Story by A Total BeardoMy journey through my art and music. When there is no destination, you're no longer in a hurry to get there.Ever feel like you're destined for something great? What that is, you don't know yet. But you feel you're meant for more than the other people. Somehow, you, alone are meant, out of a billion, to be special. While life has a nice way of poking with reality that states otherwise, that belief can never really die. But that belief can drive you insane. Drive you to high self expectations, if not met, create disappointment. The insanity of trying to figure out "where did I go wrong!?". That voice that never stops telling you that "you're running out of time!". Curling up in a ball in bed and hoping you fall asleep quickly is the best escape. Fight this another night. An idea came to me. In all my years of trying to become a rockstar, the best guitarist, the best designer, the best advertising professional, to win a cannes, to win a grammy, to be just...'great'. I forgot to have fun. I forgot why I did all those things. Because I felt like it. There were no end points, no certain starting point, just, did it. And I lost that as soon as I achieved even a little. Failure was met with those voices. Damn those voices! I'm back practising. My art, my music. Even my writing. I have no end points to either. I have a great career, I have fun practising and I like writing the very rare occasion. This is just good ol' head down, practise, not keeping score, enjoying myself, kind of love. The same way I figure I can love a woman. Just keep my head down, love, and not worry about where it's going and what i'm getting in return. Just enjoy the process. Ignorance. That's the word. Ignore the voices, ignore the failures, ignore the triumphs. Ignore greatness, cause whether it comes or not, you won't care. And that, is greatness in itself.
