Rainy day

Rainy day

A Poem by Aesthetic Autumn
"

Sometimes, I get bored with people. Oh, and if you don't know what "defenestrate" means, look it up. It's a very useful word.

"

Staring at a computer screen on a lazy afternoon.

Illuminated words and phrases

in tiny, glowing, generic typeface

convey my every thought and feeling:

laugh, smile, joke, whatever you want.

After all, it is your show.

Apathy covers the mind like a blanket of snow,

ensnaring every emotion

as the world turns time and time again.

But remember, and to be clichéd:

"Looks can be decieving";

what people show isn't what they feel at all.

It's raining, it's pouring, the red team is scoring.

The monotonous buzz of the television,

screaming, cheering fans

in another world apart from me

and my life, and my sounds, and

I don't even know who's playing.

Just when I think it's done, the rain begins again,

washing the world clean of all its impurity

again, and again, until there's nothing left at all.

Weather Channel says it's gonna be another week.

In the meantime, I just want to defenestrate my thoughts,

because maybe, just maybe, there's peace beyond the window.

LOL. I looked this word up thanks to you and my first thought was that I'd like to defenestrate my siblings. I'll be sure to let them know at some point. I'll also do well to keep in mind the last line of your second stanza. My ex-fiance could've written the first, but I won't go there.

This is another excellent poem. I notice you combine a lot of techniques in a way that's very straight-forward and easy to empathize with. From the line about cliches to the remixed nursery rhyme. You can only have so much use for the Weather Channel in south Florida, but it was another familiar reference that fit. I enjoy that about your poems.

Is it weird that I knew what defenestrate meant already? I've gotta start utilizing my vocabulary into every day conversations...

Pretty sure this would describe most Saturdays here in my apartment. Except the teams playing are green and blue.

"what people show isn't what they feel at all."
No kidding.
