My Own Anchor

My Own Anchor

A Poem by Kezia Hanaleigh

I built my trust on a pile of sand
Takes forever but seconds to fall
They said they love but they left
They said I'm wrong when I am right
They laugh when I cry
They run when I stay
I am a tale.. I follow them everywhere
To heaven or hell
Or through lies and truth

I keep asking my mirror
Who is this girl standing before me?
It looks just like me
Sounds like me
But they lie.. again
I thought the real me is dead
They keep holding me far from seeing
Then I found that mirror again
I breathe and saw the mist
I am alive, this whole time I am alive

I spent too much time loving, caring
Taking a bullet for them
When they're the ones holding the gun
Storm came and they hide
Rain washes all the stain of trust
Leaving strength and passion
No more crying and cutting
Stand straight, keep my head up
Say goodbye to a million fake faces
Knowing that from now on,
I'll be my own anchor
