Bitter Adieu

Bitter Adieu

A Poem by kewayne wadley

Their shoulders stung with regret,
They both knew this day would come,
Only one word could sum up the path that spilt into two,
That old rickety door slammed behind him,
She soon followed as he stopped at the bottom of the porch, turning to watch her once more,
Their lips forgot their words,
Not a mummer sounded as the wind swept between the two,
The life he once knew laid in the distance but the look of her eye made him hesitant upon returning,
Deep down she knew this and pained to see him go,
Her wish was that he stayed,
Turning one soul into two,
The look of their eyes couldn't have made that any clearer,
Their faces grew weak,
Stubbornly refusing to give into the desire they both longed,
Being the woman she was she couldn't see he fully didn't understand,
Still waiting for a sign, a sigh,
Anything that signaled his life belonged there but instead,
She stood at the doorway as they both seperated from what they both knew was right
