This is a short article written by me for a contest put up here. But I'll be more than happy if you all review this and tell me how I work on the spot.

When I mention to you the word candle, the first thing will come into your head will be a glow of light. However, if you stop and think about it for a few more seconds, you will find the word ‘hardship’ cropping in your mind.

The Candle, when you light it, gives light and its surroundings are benefited from its presence. The darkness that prevailed before the lightening of the candle will be scared away by the mere presence of the burning candle. Ever wondered the word ‘burning’ is attached with Candle? Why don’t we say a lit Candle? There’s a good reason for that. When you ‘light’ a Candle, though it chases away the darkness prevailing, it gradually wears out. And it continues to wear out as long as it ‘burns’.

So this is life, my friends. You just don’t have to ‘light’ the Candle of your life, but also to ‘burn’ continuously, so as you chase away all the ‘darkness’ around you. The word ‘light’ here refers to the beginning of a revolution – against any of social evils – or any other type of evils prevailing in this world. These evils are the darkness prevailing around you. Now you have to struggle and fight and ‘burn’ in order to remove all these dangerous darkness prevailing in this whole world.

But as you burn, you gradually wear out too. You loose your freshness and some of your efforts can be thwarted by your opposition, i.e. ‘storm’. But you have to stay fighting and not leave your place. And as you wear out, you gain something that a candle doesn’t. And that difference between life and a candle is called ‘experience’.

You must have heard from many people that as you celebrate each of your birthdays, you loose one year of your precious gift called life. You now have one year less to live. But I prefer to see this in a different way. As you pass each year, with each passing year you gain something that cannot be gained in any other way, any other short cut. And that priceless thing is called ‘experience’. So, next time you celebrate your birthday – your 20th birthday, suppose for an instance – don’t say that you are now 20 years old. Say that you are now experienced 20 years in life! Or better yet, say that you have successfully ‘burnt’ for 20 Years!

This is a nice read, very insightful.
I found two typos though.
In the first sentence, I think it should read "the first thing THAT will come into your head"
and in the last paragraph in the sixth sentence should say "for instance" instead of "for an instance".
Keep burning, keep writing. good stuff.
