Lying

Lying

A Poem by Jeanette Rice

Sweet ‘n' Low and summer song
Stars, wishes, moons, and frogs
Croaking, crying, cracks in logs
Gentle whispers on the sea
Carry your smile back to me

Shudder, shudder
we go bounds and leaps
follow auras down the beach
Plum juice and lollipops
Bubblegum and cherry snaps
Feel the rhythm to and fro
I drown in hugs from long ago

Gentle, gentle
Hold me in your light
chase the creatures of the night
kiss them softly on the nose
send them running running home
feel their panic
faster, faster

love is not
happily ever after
