The Prey Who Got Away

The Prey Who Got Away

A Poem by Miss Kerri
"

You asked me if I had a 'five-month rule'.

"
I've learned to live with the pain
Memories have faded
Recklessness has surfaced
Minds are being torn

Memories have faded
You changed your paths
Minds are being torn
You gave your cares away

You changed your paths
Tearing away innocence
Minds are being torn
Fighting for my losses
You're the one who got away

Capturing your prey
Recklessness has surfaced
You're the one who got away
I've learned to live with the pain

Our emotions can be so complex that it’s hard to know how to feel at times, and that is the sense I got from this poem. As you address your subject here different feelings come to the fore: resignation at learning to live with pain, acceptance of paths changed, anger at innocence torn. Honesty comes through strongly. It reminded me of a Bob Dylan song I was listening to earlier today ‘Most of the Time’ from ‘Oh Mercy’. Thanks for posting and I look forward to reading some more of your work. Ruairidh

Excellent choice of form and great execution of the theme - an effective, emotive piece.
